Becky’s Testimony
The question, “Are you ready to be baptized?? and the frequent invitation by Pastor Chris, “Whoever feel that they are ready, please come forth and inform me? would linger on my mind. I did think about it. “Yes, and why am I not ready?? I asked. “What is holding me back?? Nothing. So just about 4 months after my salvation, I messaged Pastor Chris that I was ready to be baptized. Finally it was arranged that I be baptized on 25 December 2004. Honestly, I could not wait for another day to be part of this church!
I thought I was all ready until Deacon Kang Fang told me on the eve of my baptism that I must also share my testimony. I guess it did not take an extraordinary experience to prove the existence of God. It all begins with faith. Yes, I only had faith. I believed that this is the same faith all Christian must have in order to begin his or her journey.
How did I come to BFC? It was the Cantata in early 2004. The musical skit that was put up was great, and I was impressed by all the sisters and brothers who performed at the Cantata that night, especially the 3 Tan brothers, David, Darrell and Daniel. They have such powerful voices. The spiritual message that they wished to deliver was well delivered. The story line was good and it really touched me.
I was then introduced to Sister Linda (who happens to be the mother of the 3 brothers). We had a total of 8 lessons on Discipleship. She walked me through 7 of them, and Sister Joy, who took Sister Linda’s place, 1 lesson.
I was eager to attend the Sunday school classes but was not sure which class I would be joining. I then heard that I would be placed under a Philip Tan. I was overjoyed! Deacon Philip Tan is the husband of Sister Linda and father of the 3 brothers. It was not at all by accident or pre-planned. I really thank God for this special Tan family that he had sent to me.
Why choose BFC? I discovered one cannot find God alone. He is speaking through the eyes, the words, the hands, the minds and the hearts of people. Here, in BFC, the people’s minds and hearts are open. They reach out, they welcome, they know joy. They demonstrate the compassion and courage of our Lord. Also, the passion that Pastor Chris has in his voice is incredible as well. I have never heard anyone talk so passionately about God. It really touched me and I truly enjoy all the sermons that he has been preaching. Whenever he preaches, he always makes references to the Bible. I make sure I capture all his sermons in my journal because I know I will benefit a lot from it.
I said my sinner’s prayer on 4 January 2004. Since then, I have learnt to count my blessings. We know that “an apple a day keeps the doctor away?, and we too know that “counting our blessings each day will keep the devil away?. I am blessed to have my brother in laws – Chiew Kit, Chiew Wah – and sister in law Helen, who are all Christians. I also like to specially thank God for my sister in law, Arine, who brought me to BFC. I believe with all my heart that she did a lot of praying for my salvation. I am also blessed with 2 lovely children – Hui Tong and Ryan boy, who are attending same church with me. Finally, and more importantly, I am also blessed with a responsible, supportive and loving husband – Glenn. He is also the most loving and caring daddy to our 2 children. The Bible says, “believe on the Lord Jesus, and you will be saved, you and your household? (Acts 16:31). It is my desire that this will soon be the case with my household.
The baptism on 25 Dec 2004 is especially memorable to me. It is also my hero’s birthday and I am born again same date. Isn’t this amazing and wonderful??
Lastly, I pray to be “rooted and built up in HIM, and established in the faith as you have been taught, abounding in it with thanksgiving? (Colossions 2: 7). So, please rejoice with me on this journey of obedience that I have taken.
